Catastrophe Services
2004
Marine Assist was on scene during last year's hurricane season. The picture above was a vessel our team salvaged after Hurricane Charley in Punta Gorda, Florida. This vessel was one of 90 vessels we salvaged, towed and transported to our insurance company partner's auction lot. We were one of the first marine asset recovery companies on scene. As you can see, we had agreements in place with the local barge and crane company. We also had 3 teams of salvors in place performing water recoveries as well as 3 hydraulic trailer service providers. The work in Punta Gorda required a lot of barge work, due to the amount of houses surrounding the canal system.

Not all catastrophe situations are created equal. As you well know, there were more hurricanes than we care to remember in 2004 and each of them brought their own different challenges. The hurricanes which made land fall on the East coast of Florida, roughly 3 weeks apart, beat the boats in that area into splinters. Many were driven miles form their original locations and into areas where accessibility was limited. Marine Assist recovered 130 vessels on Florida's east coast for our affiliates. We used 5 salvage teams, a crane company and 4 transport service providers as well as many other individuals to accomplish the work. We handled claims from Jacksonville to Miami, from Okechobee to Sarasota, all as a result of the 2004 hurricane season exclusive of Charley. All boats assigned to us were recovered, we didn't pick and choose the easy ones.
2005
The 2005 hurricane season started out early. Pensacola, Florida took a direct hit in almost the same location Ivan came ashore last year. Marine Assist was again on scene working for our affiliates. The following picture was a 45' catamaran stranded on the beach where no crane could get to it. The Marine Assist vendor from Pensacola performed the salvage. This vessel was one of several salvaged in the Florida Panhandle.
Hurricane Katrina made a mess when it passed over the Miami area. The following pics were of two separate sailboat salvages we were assigned by our affiliates. The Marine Assist service provider from the Miami area performed the salvages and our transporter moved the vessels to the auction yard, after we arranged to remove rigging.
Katrina was a small storm when it hit Florida, but the pictures we will have of our work in the upper Gulf states will be astounding. They will be posted as time allows. We will be in the Mississippi and Alabama areas beginning in the second week of September, as access to affected areas is allowed.
We do more than just hurricane recovery work. Our service providers work year round, performing salvages and transportations for our affiliates in all areas. The following pictures are of a boat on the rocks in Lake Erie in August and a beached catamaran in Englewood, Fl., also in August. Both vessels were handled from start to finish by Marine Assist service providers and delivered to the insurance company's desired destination. The last three pictures are of a salvage in Sarasota back in February.
